Arhai
Web site: arhai.com

ARHAI was created in 1998. Its music embodies unique fusion of different genres: ambient sound and traditional music of the Balkans combined with elements of jazz improvisation.

These elements are integrated through skillful authorship of Jovana Backovic, group's leader. She is the composer and arranger of all pieces that Arhai performs.

Due to this specific fusion of sounds, Arhai's music is usually listed within the broad genre of world music

There are ten musicians in the tribe. Classical flute, violoncello and piano together bring the ambiental quality of sound, while percussions, drums, electric and bass guitar modernize the music that was purely acoustic in the beginning.

There are also four female vocals, whose style of singing represents sound of Balkans' tradition in Arhai's music.

Musicians have different backgrounds and experiences (classical music, jazz & blues, traditional music), but their different approaches to music and balance between them is exactly that what inspires author's music.

This specific mixture of genres and instrument's colors make Arhai unique. Also, the most important characteristic of Arhai's music is that is completely "live",it sometimes sounds very simmilar to ritual music, not only from the Balkan region.

In that sense, Arhai tribe is trying to explore - thru music - an idea of pan – balkanism, an idea which implifies so many connections between people of this region – simmilarities we’re all aware of.

Ab Re
Web site: ab-re.com

The band is a product of a strong friendship between musicians, which dates back to the early 90’s.

AB RE was founded in 2001. In the beginning, pure desire was the band’s only motivation for playing and making music. The band played for several years in a small studio, without appearing in public.

It was truly dedicated to music and existed without the outside influences of critics or audiences, or the hectic organization of concerts and commercial issues.

It was during this time that most of today’s repertoire was created. After a long time the band decided to give a public concert, and made its debut in October 2004, at the Jazz Session Night in the Youth Club (Velika Plana, Serbia).

Since than, the band has been playing at different locations, wherever elementary conditions existed. In May 2005, ab re held a very successful concert in the well known club KB in Pozarevac, Serbia.

The concert was a part of the significant art festival Refract 04 (Regional Festival Alternative Culture). F.A.C.E. (Festival Alternative Creative Exchange) was held in August 2005 in Belgrade and Novi Sad. During the 10 day festival, ab re worked with many artists from different fields and different countries.

The most valuable experience was the collaboration with the French accordion player Yves Beraud – who played with ab re bringing in high energy and influences from the French music. ab re held two concerts during the F.A.C.E. festival. Because of the success of these concerts at the F.A.C.E. festival, ab re got the opportunity to play at the UMBRIA JAZZ FESTIVAL in Novi Sad, on August 30th, 2005.

This concert was only an introduction to what would come in 2006: an invitation to play at what’s perceived as one the most prestigious music festivals in Europe – EXIT festival in Novi Sad, Serbia. ab re's one hour performance has captivated hundreds of members of the audience, and many identified it as the most pleasant surprise of the July festival.

Having performed only instrumental music for several years, the band decided to start experimenting with vocals. Another one of the band’s long time friends joined the group, adding new flavor to an already distinctive sound. ab re music is a specific fusion of Serbian ethno music and a variety of modern music forms such as basic rock, pop and jazz.

Sometimes there are even fragments of heavy metal, post rock or noise. Traditional sound is just a frame for music research. ab re is much more than an ethno band, and it is always trying to upgrade and update traditional music in an unexpected way.

Band Members:

Aleksandar Vukasinovic, accordion, synth.

YUER fest is a worldly cosmopolitan Ethno-Jazz and Rock Music festival from regions of former Yugoslavia.

It came out of two, already traditional, manifestations. The first one is"Yu Fête de la Musique"(Music's day in France happening every year on the 21st of June) which took place for 3 years in the club "Le Cheval d'Or".

The second manifestation is likewise a traditional concert of Ethno Jazz music organised by professor Petar Gojkovic. Because the club was sold, and because the concept changed, in 2006 we didn't organise Yu Fête de la Musique, since, in 2007, we formed the association YUER and originated the first outland 'expatriated' Ethno Jazz and Rock festival.

At the launching of the festival, there was a big contribution and counsels from the living rock scene's legend Dado Topic with the TIME band, and Ilija the manager. YUER fest would regroup artists from the territory of the whole former Yugoslavia, and will be around the slogan "Musicians never even quarelled" which is absolutely in cohesion with official politics of all states that appeared from the territory of former Yugoslavia.

In Paris, the festival will gather the most actual artists from these Music creators' territories. We are expecting extra media presence. Cooperation is already proposed to television channels, for an eventual filming of the whole festival. Identical contribution is proposed to the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia.

The festival is intended for the French Musical market, and also for our expatried people/diaspora in France and Europe.

The goals of the festival are:
-The uprising and popularization of Ethno Music and its integration in Europe's and Worldwide's trends
-popularization of music's creators from former Yugoslavia's territories and their connexions with Europe's and worldwide's record companies -the highlighting of cultural and civilisation's values of intelligence and urban population of 'ex'Yugoslavia on temporary work and dwelling in the lands of Europe
-Connection between expatried people/diaspora who grew up alongside Rock music and urban culture If we except individual foreign's weak media presentation of each musician's performance, this would be the unique festival abroad aimed to ameliorate our image, to change the stereotypes and to display some other form of quality.

For this reason our idea is that such an event has to be preceded by an intensive advertising campaign made under high global standards. YUER fest can be particularly significant for our exiled population which couldn't keep informed with the "cultural" development of "turbo-folk music".

This population of expatriated essentially left their country in the time of its destabilization under the slogan "graduate and then emigrate" as a sentence of disagreement with the politic then, at the time.

Most of them are highly qualified, highly ranked in their new country of exile but sadly they rarely socialize with their compatriots and often avoid to be explicit about their origins.
