About...

IOMA 2005 'Artist of the Year': 11th April 2005: "OnOffOn have been declared overall winner of IOM's 2005 Artist of the Year Award for their album 'Your Mind' which was reviewed recently in our CD Reviews section."
"...Quite simply, OnOffOn's 'Your Mind' is perhaps one of the most important CD releases in recent years to have completely overwhelmed its audience with its progressive and forward thinking amalgamations of Jazz, Rock, Blues, Funk, and imminently purveyed head-space entertainment value."

"Ladies and gentleman may I have your attention please?.... I'd like to propose a toast to ONOFFON for their wonderful performance this evening that. I'm sure all of you will agree was one of the best that we have had the pleasure to feast our ears upon in many many years.
...(audience uproar in applause...speaker smiles and waits for several minutes for the audience to die down so that he may continue)...
'And might I also add that this group has far surpassed their reputable status of excellence in previous performances?
...(audience uproar in applause) - (Speaker to the band)...
'I for one have considered this to be a memorable occasion, and due to the fact that our mouths will still be ajar for the next two weeks, we would all love to see you perform what we have just been a part of a thousand times over and, as you can see Dear Sirs, we are in a state of anxiously premature anticipation for your next album.
...(audience absolutely freaks out in a unique whistling capacity like the sound of multiple freight trains in one yard at the same time)...
'We wish you all of the best and we thank you endlessly for coming here tonight. Raise your glasses! Cheers to ONOFFON
...(Standing ovation for five minutes that even the janitors (who abandon their duties for the night to listen to the show) participate in."

Bridge to Presage

Just selected Best Album for 2006 at this year's International Online Music Awards!

ONOFFON is finally back with their third release, "Bridge to Presage". Now for something completely different should be the theme of this diverse and profound group of musicians. The core of ONOFFON is still built on the trio of Don Lake-guitars, Von Babasin-bass, and Dave Goode-drums, but the trio becomes a quintet on this latest release, adding the world class virtuosity of saxman, Glen Garrett, and pianist, Marcus Duke, as permanent members. Amazing production has become a trademark of ONOFFON and "Bridge to Presage" does not fail to deliver the superior sound quality that has won them IOMA's 2005 "Artist of the Year" on the merits of their previous CD, "Your Mind".
This CD is another hard right turn, also an ONOFFON trademark, and this time around is all instrumental. Displaying a totally unique sound, this collection of compositions can only be called "Symphonic Jazz". From the opening track, "Ottone Prelude: 'Remembrance'", until the conclusion of "Finale", each piece tells a musical story that must be heard in its entirety.
ONOFFON is a perfect example of why the independent music scene is the only place where musical creativity and innovation is allowed to take place. Everyone should own a copy of this CD and, indeed, the entire ONOFFON discography.

This is a beautiful album. It very cleverly puts all the inventiveness of jazz in a number of modal frameworks that keep it accessible, so that everyone from the most discerning jazz-buff to the everyday listener will be hit by its melodic and harmonic beauty. When you try to describe something as rich as this, you end up getting a bit loquacious, even a bit pretentious, so a better way to give you an idea of what it's like would be to say that it's currently on my shelf between Kenny Burrell's 'Midnight Blue' and McCoy Tyner's 'The Real McCoy'. It's that good.
