About

Music makes up the final bond between these 4 experienced musicians. More than simple communal vibration, it is generosity, human warmth and taste for collaboration that characterises their repertoire. It's probably this very generosity and the will to serve music by respecting it that allows ELIJAH to impose itself onto a wide audience.

Prestigious artists were kind enough to participate in the project by contributing to the recording of their first album:

ELIJAH’s musical style Sometimes described as a style in music, the word Fusion in the French dictionary is depicted as "the inner union resulting from the combination or the permeation of human beings or things"

As far as Elijah is concerned, the "human beings" in question are:

GREGORY REYNAERT
saxophone

MIKE RAJAMAHENDRA
drums

STEPHANE BEAUCOURT
bass

JEREMIE TERNOY
piano.

Related to the "things", it concerns the various musical inspirations of the 4 musicians. That goes from the Rock to the Funk, going through Reggae, Soul and Jazz… The last style of music mentioned above is directly linked with JAZZ FUSION.

What is exactly JAZZ FUSION This is a musical style born at the end of the 60’s. This style is launched by Miles Davis when he left the Be-bop to play an amplified music, melting jazz influences, rock, rhythm and blues, soul music, funk and sometimes classical music. Jazz Fusion is often a frustrating kind of music because without a strong sense of balance, the music’s complexity hides easily its sensibility.

About

ELIJAH ( 4 musicians) does not make a choice between the figures imposed by the style and the emotions. The bass player, Stéphane Beaucourt (specialized in this kind of music) is the "chip off the old blocks" that are Chet Baker and Pat Metheny.

The drummer, Mike Rajamahendra, plays an incredible and glittery Charleston’s ballet, Jérémie Ternoy playing the piano is fond of the "free". On the saxophone, Grégory Reynaert gives all his energy.

ELIJAH is a jazz band inspired and full of creativity. All these energies go to the same glinting point; LIFE!

ELIJAH plays a real and lively music that elates our souls!

"I really loved their colourful and rich language, their overflowing energy, the pioneer spirit of young artist willing to push back frontiers as did the iconic bands of the 70's who are so dear to my heart. I discovered while listening to their music a abundance of colours, harmonies, rich and inventive rhythms, and a dynamic and perfectly mastered.
These artists know how to handle the very fragile balance between reason and irrationality. I wish them all the best for the future!"

How to define the quadrature of the circle or the circular of the quartet ?

MIKE RAJAMAHENDRA
Coming from Mauritius Island, he is the son of the drum player Jack Rajamahendra. He was known and well know all around the African area during the 70’s. Born and raised in an artistic atmosphere, Mike developed not only an incredible sense of arranging but also a perfect instrument’s execution. Popular and loved for his musical qualities and his generosity, Mike became quickly a begged drummer. Thus he got a huge privilege when joining the "Chance Orchestra". He succeeded great artists like Paco Sery, Manu Katché and Loic Ponthieux

GRÉGORY REYNAERT
He began playing the saxophone at the age of 12. As a self –educated musician and fierce hard worker, he created his own musical style. His "jam-sessions" in the Parisian jazz clubs caught the attention of great musicians like Louis Winsberg or Sylvain Beuf who were astonished and very impressed by such a maturity in his sense of interpretation. His main quality is due to his very rich vocabulary. Subsequently he can deal simultaneously with a ""Stan Getz" lyricism and some spectacular flights like "Gato Barbieri" used to do. No chance to get bored while listening to his music!

STÉPHANE BEAUCOURT
Self –educated, Stéphane Beaucourt began playing the guitar and the bass at 11 years old. He marked really early as different from the others bass players thanks to his rich and unique way of playing, becoming thus a set apart fiery player. This is a veritable "one man show" that Stéphane performs and you get captivated very easily because of his stage presence. A couple of years later, he has been sued for a lot of festivals. This brings him to participate to plenty of cultural projects, from Paris, to Varsovia, Montreal, Montreux, Geneva, Noumea

JÉRÉMIE TERNOY
As a piano performer, he is a very active musician of the French jazz scene. Talented composer, he created his own trio that get an award during the prestigious Jazz contest occurring at "La Défense" in Paris. He received the soloist second prize and a "special" mention from the jury. He also participates frequently to musical meetings, giving him the chance to play with the best French musicians like the Belmondo’s Brothers to name a few…
