A creator of unique music and an outstanding performer, Anthony"s compositions integrate a wide range of complementary elements - a subtlety of beauty intertwined with feelings from remote regions of our soul.
Discover the solidity and diversity of his pieces as you appreciate within them the qualities of Classical and Contemporary, Popular, Caribbean & Latin American Folk, and Jazz music. Unarguably, he is a tireless performer, and his concerts vary from solo guitar, duos, trios, orchestras, and other formats.
Most frequently, he plays as a solo guitarist or accompanied by percussion, having worked with great masters of the instrument, such as Guarionex Aquino, Isidro Bobadilla, Edmundo Rodriguez, Ronny Vasques. His music has been performed on varied stages and countries, such as The "National Theater" of the Dominican Republic, on two different occasions with Gonzalo Rubalcaba and also with Egberto Gismonti; in Madrid, he has performed in grand venues such as "El Círculo de Bellas Artes" and "Clamores"; and he has also presented his music on national television in the USA, and also all around Latin America, North America and Europe thorughout TVE.
His compositions have received various awards, including the "Francisco Tarrega Composers Award" in Spain; "Casa de Teatro Award" in the Dominican Republic; and "Sr. Josephine Morgan Award" in the USA.
This composer and guitarist from the Dominican Republic, who has been living for the past four years in Madrid, is presenting us his second CD, this time as a soloist It is an absolutely intimist work, where the interpreter of the acoustic guitar presents us 9 original tracks and a version of the song "Al Alba" by Luis Eduardo Aute.
In this second album, we are facing a more mature composer and guitarist, who presents us his peculiar style of fusion of classical and contemporary music, that comes along with his education as a musician in NYC, Jazz music and of his undeniable Caribbean roots, which can be perfectly appreciated in his most recent work titled "Anthony Ocaña".
Anthony has found a way to penetrate the most hidden emotions in order to purify our soul. Though he is a soloist musician, in this album Anthony counts with the participation, in some tracks, of recognized dominican musicians such as Guarionex Aquino (percussion), Isidro Bobadilla -El Boba- (percussion), Esar Simo (Upright), Sebastian Lerner (piano & keyboards), and Maridalia Hernandez (vocals on "Salvame") ex interpreter of Juan Luis Guerra & 440.
This album is a clean cut example of the "Nouvelle Musique". Enjoy it!

Diversity leads to harmony seems to be the musical message emerging from
Anthony Ocaña's new album. From beginning to end, "Solo" is an exquisite journey built on classical lines blended with airy improvisations, distilled folk and jazz themes. Sculpting in sounds, Ocana uses spaces and tempos to create a structured concept revealed layer by layer to the listener. Each song tells a story, at times joyful at times contemplative yet seamlessly integrated with the overall elegant atmosphere noticeable throughout the album. Among the highlights, the intimate "Improviso 2 (a Anouar Brahem)" and the two Beatles classics arranged with a sense of freshness and free style.

"Wet Fields" (2010)
"En Vivo Palacio de Bellas Artes" (2010)
A very personal album -third as a solo artist- in which Ocaña hommages those musicians who have accompanied his musical search. The influences of Heitor Villa-Lobos, Anouar Brahem, Egberto Gismonti, Michel Camilo or Luis Días is returned by this genious of the strings in new sounds and resonances painting emotional fields with his music.” (Beatriz Bienzobas, “Estilos” 2010)
Ocaña arrives in the market as an oasis in the dessert, product of serious and professional studies, showing that not only "bachata" and "merengue" is the music created in this half island. Thanks to "Wet Fields". (Máximo Jimenez “El Caribe” 2010)
"Wet Fields", we have the pleasure and compromise to recommend it from Radio 5.
A prodigy of the classical guitar revising The Beatles, a genius whose name is Anthony Ocaña” (Antonio Díaz. "Radio Nacional de España" 2010)
The Dominican Republic waits and needs to witness the arising of the next Michel Camilo, and not necessarily another pianist. Another Michel in terms of quality, international and artistic transcendence. If predictions do not fail, guitarist Anthony Ocaña is one of those hopes we keep under the veil of our national pride...Solo will accompany the good taste of the discriminating music lover who disregards commercial formulas, and goes directly for fine art, or in this case, great music. (Máximo Jimenez “El Caribe” 2008)
The style he has purified throughout the years and with experience, escapes classification, too modern for what is classic and too traditional for what is contemporary, a music that is open and without labels. (Sónsoles Rodríguez González “EFE” 2008)
